Critique My Blog Blogfest TODAY!

Have you ever wondered what your blog looks like to other people?

Today, you can find out.

I'm hosting a Critique My Blog Blogfest where you can click on the links below and give people advice and constructive criticism. It starts today, but it can go on for as long as people keep doing it, so feel free to sign up at any time.

Here's how it works:

To Get Critiqued:

1.      Include your name in the linky list below.
2.      On February 1, post your request for critiques. The critiques can come from anyone, even people not involved in the blogfest.
3.      If you want, specify what kind of critique you’re looking for.
4.      Specify where you want to receive the critiques: in the comments where everyone can see them, or in your email where it’s more private.
5.      You can delete comments after you’ve read them if you so choose.

To Critique Others:

1.      Click on a blog from the linky list and read what the writer wants you to critique.
2.      You can make comments on:
a.      Appearance: Does it appeal to you? Is it too busy, or too plain?
b.      Layout: Is it difficult to navigate? Is it cluttered, or sparse?
c.      Frequency: Does the blogger post too often? Not often enough?
d.      Content: Are the posts interesting? Unique? Are they focused, or all over the place?
e.      Quality: Are the individual posts too long, too short, too sloppy, or too generic?
3.      Be sure to check if the blogger wants you to post the critique in the comments or send an email.

Thanks! This should be fun!

  1. Teralyn:

Thanks for sponsoring this Blog Hop. It should be really fun and I'm looking forward to receiving comments.
Hope you're having a great week.

  2. Appearance: I like the color palette. I've always been a fan of white, gray/black and red :) The neutral colors take the most space, so that makes everything easy on the eyes and the colorful background stand out.

Layout: Even though I'm not a fan of the double columns on either side, b/c that can really make a blog look cluttered, yours actually doesn't feel cluttered b/c you keep don't overwhelm it with graphics and links.

Content: Love your posts :) They're varied and always interesting to read.

  3. Thanks for hosting this bloghop. I think it's a great one!!

    Critique of your blog:
I'm not sure if it's just my computer - - but the "authors I support" box bleeds over into the central posting area covering up some of the information.

I do NOT like the word verification box - - probably because I can't spell the word correctly - - but it also slows up the commenting process for me.

I think your blog looks great otherwise!!

  4. I just joined in when it turned out my post for today was basically asking for feedback on my blog. I like the subheadings on how readers can frame their comments. Thanks for hosting.

I like the simplicity of your blog, and how the white of the center stands out from the darker background.

  5. Hello there, thanks for hosting the fest.

On my computer the scrolling book list has over written some of the text.

You've got a lot going on here, and that's exciting, but you may wish to consolidate your columns.

    hope this helps.

  6. Thanks for the advice so far!

Debs, in what way could I consolidate the columns? Are you saying they need to be grouped by topic?

  7. Easy to read. Great colors.(I love the red)

    Good writing tips.
Posts are in the Goldilocks range, not too short, not too long.

Interesting pics and I like how you've dispersed the photos throughout.

The only crit I have is very subjective. I don't care for the widgets. In this case the Authors I Support.
But that is not a criticism.

Thanks for starting this bloghop. Super Great!

  8. I love everything about this blogfest and you are really doing a public service!

  9. Thanks for the great critique hop! I have had some very helpful feedback so far.

    Feedback for you:
Your site looks nice and clean, a bit generic but functional.
The 'Authors I support' widget on the left sidebar is too wide. It hangs over into your posts and is very distracting in that regard.
Your posts are very informative and are just the right length for a short burst of knowledge. I'm personally really into large scale images in posts, I think it helps draw the reader in and boost the post - just a thought.

    happy hump day!

  10. Thanks for kicking off the event!

I've only been following for a little bit.... your blog seems to have a good variety of content, if that is your goal. Sharing your book progress, writing experience, writing tactics, platforming. Each post has good internal cohesion. Post frequency is good for those wanting regular corespondance.

I like what you've done with the tabs / links across the top (below the title).

Very minor comment on appearance... your background image doesn't have a good breakline / repeat point. That kind of issue is a personal pet peeve of mind, I'm not sure anyone else would notice enough to care.

  11. Teralyn, thanks heaps for this blogfest, it's a great idea and I think we will all find it really useful!

I'm going to send you an email with most of my critique. But I will say here, I just expanded your blog & I think your background image is gorgeous!!

  12. your layout is simple and sweet, like you, right?
and i love your articles, helpful and relative.
    thanks for the fest!

  13. I like the layout of your blog. I am fan of the three-column layout (but I'm biased as that is how my blog is setup). I’m not fan of pop out comment boxes. I like that you are using LinkWithin. I would like to see a few words in your header explaining what your blog is about (are you on a journey to get published?) Overall your blog is easy to navigate and your posts are interesting. Thanks for hosting this blogfest!

  14. Hi, Teralyn,

I was suggesting that you might consider having one, side column rather than two. But now you've lost the scrolling books the page looks a lot cleaner.

  15. Hi Teralyn, thank you for hosting this blogfest, i've got pretty helpful feeback and found new blogs.

I love the mostly white background which keeps the focus on the text. Like Deborah Walker, I didn't like the scrolling books feature and like Margo, the word verification discourages comments. I definately like the content of your blog and how didactic it is. Weldone

  16. Er, one more suggestion? You might want to break up the sidebars into boxes or separate the widgets with lines.

  17. Oh fun! I got here in time for a blog hop! AND one with helpful suggestions! Just wanted to let you know you were nominated for a couple of blogger awards! More details here:

I love hearing from my readers!
