Does anyone know how to get rid of spam comments?

I have had it up to here with spam comments on my blog! Does anyone know how to keep from getting them? I thought I had set it up so you have to type in a code to leave a comment, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Another thing I hate is spam hits where you click on the link to see where a bunch of hits are coming from and it ends up being advertisements. Do other blogging sites have these problems?

  1. It is frustrating. If we make it too hard to comment, we dry up our comments. I just consider it like getting telesolicitations when you have a phone. I hate when they tag on to old posts so that their ads come to those who left notice to be told of each new comment on a post. Sigh. Better luck.

    1. Oh, so that's why they do it! I always thought leaving spam on a blog was a waste of time because it's a lot of effort to get me to go to their site. It never occurred to me that all my followers are getting those notifications. That really frustrates me.

  2. I think you would go into your settings and be able to stop them. But them what do I know. Also you could go to the Microsoft settings and see if there is an anti-spam element. Very frustrating.

  3. I have less now since Capcha. What's bugging me recently is spam on my reading list. I did a 'snapshot' of it and sent it to Google who remove such people. Hmm, that sounds distinctly 'Godfatherish'. Explore settings and you'll find the relevant links

    1. I wish we could "Godfather" people who leave spam!
